FACT: Skilled contests receive only a fraction of the number of entries sent to a sweepstakes.
FACT: Most sweepstakers are afraid to enter a skilled contest.
FACT: I am a dyed-in-the-wool contester!
I love the challenge of competing with others even when I don't win. No, I'm not crazy! I may not win, but I NEVER LOSE because I come away from each contest with another bit of knowledge that will help me to do better on the next one.
So what is keeping you from entering? What do you tell your kids when they are competing on sports or academic teams, "Give it up, you haven’t got a chance?" I don’t think so. You tell them to get out there and give it their best shot! So why aren’t you taking your own advice?
Skill contests are not that difficult, maybe you just haven’t found the right one yet! I have encouraged many sweepers over the years to try their hand at a skill contest and I’m proud to say that many of them have come away as winners. You will never know until you try! You may have the very idea (or essay, photo or video) that a sponsor is looking for. Come on, you can do this!
To help you get started I posted an article in SweepsUniversity with some tips on entering writing contests. I will be adding to this one in a follow-up chapter later on, but this one will get you started. I plan to write one about entering recipe and cooking competitions as well.
So, See this line? ------------------------------------------------------ I dare you to cross it and enter a skill contest!
