Many sweepers like to wait until the end of a sweepstakes to put their entry in if they are only allowed to enter once. The reason behind this goes back many years to an old saying, "Last in, first out". This came from the days when drop boxes were everywhere. It was a well-known fact among sweepers that many an overworked store manager with more important things on his mind, just opened the box and grabbed the first entry he touched. I have been the lucky recipient of just such an occurrence. In 1991, I attended a local cruise show where a drawing was held every hour. Robert and I had just arrived and deposited our entries when my name was announced as the winner of a cruise for two.
Although there are not as many drop box drawings nowadays, many sweepers still consider the theory to be a true one for other types of sweepstakes entries as well. If there is any advantage it is with one entry only sweeps. The majority of sweepers will submit their one entry as soon as they find a promotion, probably near the beginning or middle of its duration. Very few wait and remember to enter just before the promotion ends. So there are fewer entries received at this point in the life of a sweepstakes and those who do remember may have a slight advantage because of this.
