mhart333 has done some research and would like to share her findings on QR Code Sweepstakes, another new way for sweepers to enter and win.

Thing is—we sweepers had better change with them to catch up with the winnin’!

The latest craze—QR codes. The short definition for QR codes “…is a matrix barcode, (or two-dimensional code), readable by QR scanners, mobile phones with a camera, and smart phones.” (Look below to see one for SweepsU.) Forget the fancy definition from Wikipedia—let’s get down to how we can use them to win!!!

They are popping up in lots of places:

  • Magazines (check out the April 1st edition of Woman’s Day magazine)
  • On advertisements in stores—I have seen several in Wal-Mart and 7-11
  • On many different products
  • On posters—at conventions—malls…

You will need two things to get started to “snag” or take a photo of the QR code—a smart phone and an app to read the code. Here is where it gets a little tricky. There are getting to be many different apps for snagging codes. They are all free. Here are some of the most popular:

My suggestion—just wait until you find a QR code—read the fine print and the company will let you know which reader you need to download.

Very helpful hint!!—go to the settings on your smart phone and set up auto-fill on your browser. I have an iphone, so I just went to SettingsSafariAutoFill.

If you want to give QR codes a try—check out this sweep:

You will use the Microsoft tagger app and you will “snag” the tag right off of the computer screen.

Good Luck—and let’s meet back at the forums to start a discussion about this newfangled thing!
